Narrative Imaging (Minor Course)
Sep 2018 - Dec 2018
Art Center College of Design, USA (CA)

Course objective
The free interpretation of the storyline that runs back and forward in the book is the central key point in this project. This series of photos consist of a selection of more than 2500 photos. All of the photos have been shot during a period of four months in different areas of California. This selection of images, color schemes, moods and compositions have carefully been put together in zine that all together will shape a sequential storyline through the eyes of the viewer.

This project is about both photographing and creating the storyline as the common thread through , as well as being the art director of your own work.

The deliverable was a 32-page zine with a selection of 23 images total.

Challenge

It was a challenge laying down all the photos and start composing it to a sensible coherent collection, since the objective was not clear and could be interpreted in a thousand ways.

Solution
My solution was to combine a certain feeling at each picture and when viewing and thereby categorising them into multiple groups. That description of feeling had to be named only one word in order to do it quick and decisive.

Selection process

After selecting the top 3 of each category I selected the final ones based on image quality, topic and potential impact within the narrative. After all, a sequence of footage was created that was fully suitable for ‘story making’ by the viewer.

Some snippets of the 2500 photos can be viewed below in the gallery. Underneath each photo you can find the theme of that particular week.
